To enhance the staff's understanding on various topics, I led several professional developments. These included sessions on True Colors, MTSS, Remind, and Emergency Procedures. I worked to ensure that the English Language Arts Department had consistent and functioning PLCs. We did this at the department level as well as the grade level. Departments meet weekly for PLC by grade level. They are given the opportunity to work as a department once a month at the department staff meeting as well as the quarterly planning day. This time allowed for increased vertical planning as well as ensured that teachers were communicating consistent expectations.
I also co-led a session at the district's Out of the Box Professional Development. At this training, we had teachers from around the district come and solidify their understanding of best teaching practices. By completing this, I assisted the district in furthering their goal of implementing best teaching practices.
4b. Recruiting, Hiring, Placing and Mentoring of staff
The school executive establishes processes and systems in order to ensure a high-quality, high-performing staff.
I was a member of the interview committee and responsible for setting up and hiring staff members.
4c. Teacher and Staff Evaluation
The school executive evaluates teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner with the focus on improving performance and, thus, student achievement.
As the first observation cycle was announced, I would ask teachers to fill out the following form. This would guide our conversation and also help to help the teachers with their planning.
The following is an example of my notes during the observation. I would take this information when I completing the observation tool.
